Das ist eine ganz tolle Sache, das uns der Autor hier begleiten möchte. Da freue ich mich genauso darüber wie ich mich auf den Roman, den ich wohl spätestens am nächsten Wochenende beginnen werde , freue!

I am very happy that Werner could get you for the reading cirle of the German Issue of Monstocity.
I allready read Monstrocity in English, because I was so fascinated of Punktown. So I got all the Exclusive Jeffrey Thomas Book at Shocklines and allready read all of them. My favorite title is the Grim Grimoire edition of "Everybody Scream" just to wonderfull to read :-)

Are you planing to bring any other of your titles in Germany?

Heres my other question. I read at Shocklines.com that every costumer who bought an exclusive Jeffrey Thomas Book will get an free Chappbook.
Are you near finishing the Chapbook? You must know I cant wait to read new stuff from you! I am an socalled addict :-)

I read every single work (in English) by Jeffrey Thomas and I have to admit that this guy is a true "kick ass"-author. His novels (and works in general) are shining diamonds. Keep on writing like that, man!

Jeffrey again: Well, that makes me proud indeed, Walter. I have more English-language books coming out this year: the collection THIRTEEN SPECIMENS from Delirium Books contains stories set in my worlds of Punktown, Hades, and Boneland, etc. Then, Bedlam Press will be releasing my new “Punktown” short story collection, PUNKTOWN: SHADES OF GREY, with half the stories penned by my brother Scott Thomas (author of the brilliant new fantasy collection, WESTERMEAD). Then in July 2006, British publisher Black Flame will release my
first mass market novel, an original story based around the movie character Freddy Krueger, called A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET: THE DREAM DEALERS.

A note that may interest you. Has anyone read the story THE DANCE OF UGGHIUTU in the German edition of my collection PUNKTOWN? This story was in the magazine DARK DISCOVERIES in the US but it is not in the English edition of PUNKTOWN. Well, I wrote DANCE OF UGGHIUTU after I wrote MONSTROCITY, and it carries over some of the ideas I developed for MONSTROCITY, so those two stories have a sort of connection to each other.

Disclaimer: I will write all the time in red English in this thread to prevent splitting up my mind into shiny little pieces.

I began to read MonstroCity (sounds like monstrosity; intentionally, I think) yesterday evening to keep up to date here. I have suspended reading another book meanwhile, which is something I use to do often.

I thought about buying the English original for a moment, which would have make it easier to cite the text in the case of special questions, but the money factor has decided to stay with the German translation.

Okay, there is nothing more I have to say yet, stay tuned, hehe.

To J.T. PUNKTOWN is a great Book, i love it, like Stuff of my favorite Authors, like J.G.Ballard or Ray Bradbury and Thomas Ligotti. My favorite Story in Punktown is "A Reflection of Ghosts". Why ? Cause, its the first Story in the German Edition, and it made me Cold Chills,its fantastic! But that dos`t Matter, because i liked all the Stories in the Book!

Ups, ich habe ja schon 1/3 durch. Der Beginn ist wie ein dezenter Hieb aufs Auge, in Gegenwart geschrieben und dann diese exakte Schilderung des Schrotflintenfangschusses.

Anschließend hat mich Paxton wieder sehr schnell in seinen Bann gezogen, es fällt schwer, das Buch aus der Hand zu legen.

So, pünktlich zum offiziellen Start habe ich heute auch mit "MonstroCity" angefangen... und gleich mal bis Seite 130 durchgelesen, was eindeutig für das Buch spricht. Nach meinem bisherigen Kenntnisstand hätte das Buch wirklich gut in die Lovecraft-Bibliothek gepaßt... wieder ein Buch, dass ich auch gerne als Hardcover gehabt hätte. So, ich mache mich gleich ans Weiterlesen, genauere Anmerkungen meinerseits folgen .

Bin auch schon zur Hälfte durch.
Finds bis jetzt klasse. Näheres wenn ichs durch habe.

Heh...I LOVE Lynch's work (especially ERASERHEAD), but this story wasn't inspired by him particularly. It was inspired by a book I own of horrifying police crime scene photos, the images lingering in my mind. I thought, "What if I can not get these images out of my eyes?" And thus the story was born. The title in English is THE LIBRARY OF SORROWS.

Let me give you the origin of the title. I was proofreading a Jeff VanderMeer story for him, probably his VENISS UNDERGROUND. I saw the word "monstrocity." I thought it was a clever pun, a play on words: Monster City. But he told me it was a mistake; he meant to write "monstrosity." But the word MONSTROCITY stuck in my head...and soon, I began to write a novel around that title! Punktown is a sort of Monster City!

Ahh, I am proud to be compared to Ballard and Ligotti, whose work I greatly admire, though I have only read them AFTER I invented Punktown -- but Bradbury has been an inspiration from my boyhood. PUNKTOWN is sort of my equivalent of his MARTIAN CHRONICLES. By the way, the PUNKTOWN short story THE REFLECTIONS OF GHOSTS is my own favorite Punktown short story, too!

so, after having finished the brilliant "A Feast for Crows" I started MonstroCity yesterday night and finished the first part. This mornig I began with the second and till now it was a fun read. The writing is hard to rate because its a translation, but it was gripping and the pace was rather fast ... the only thing that brought a bad feeling during the reading was the Lovecraftian approach. This is because I was never a fan of his writing, most because I found his stories rather ridicolous. But yours ist not ... so lets see if the rest of the book is as good as the parts I read til now.
